It all started with a new vision for education

Bertil Hult founded EF in 1965 with the belief that there was a better way to learn. As a student with dyslexia, he struggled to learn English in a traditional classroom. He knew that with the right tools, he could succeed -- and perhaps help other students do the same.

Today, EF has grown into a global education organization, helping students around the world. We’ve always been focused on the future of learning, since collaborating with Apple in 1995 to building Efekta, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential technologies of 2026. But over 60 years, our philosophy has stayed the same, grounded in the simple idea that every student deserves an education shaped around how they learn best.

In 2005 we opened EF Academy, built on the belief that there is a better way to learn.

We’ve created a school like no other, bringing together our 60 years of experience in education and the latest advances in technology to deliver truly personalized learning. Outside the classroom, our students learn alongside people from different cultures and perspectives, while developing the confidence, independence and real-world skills they need to thrive beyond school.

EF Academy is the next chapter in EF’s long history of rethinking education: a school built around how every student learns best, and designed for the world ahead.
